Make Kentucky Lamb Kabobs A Hit At Cookouts

By Carolyn Rogers

When it comes to cooking on the grill, sometimes it does not hurt to change things up a bit. This is especially the case for those who may not have a lot of time or are looking to control their portions. In the latter case, this can actually be fun if the goal is to improve health. For instance, kentucky lamb is loaded with many nutrients and is high in protein.

If a person is concerned about the fat content, there are many meats besides turkey that do not have as much fat as beef. Chicken and lamb have a moist consistency when cooked slowly and costs much less than lean beef. These meats are also versatile, as they make great entrees or meal stretchers.

The great thing about consuming protein is that it is a great way to feel full quickly. One complaint that most dieters have is not feeling like they had enough to eat when they decide to cut back on calories. With wide meal choices, what may seem like a small portion with few calories or fat content will eventually feel like a meal going down.

Stews and soups are a great way to have vegetables and lean meat on a budget. All it takes is adding a few spices to a meat broth, along with chunks of meat, vegetables, and maybe a few carbohydrates. Quinoa or colored potatoes, like purple or those with orange flesh, may be healthier alternatives to white flour pasta or potatoes with less fiber content.

Speaking of meal stretchers, one good way to get the most of any meat without being boring is to create a tamale pie. This calls for any type of chili as the base but the next level is made with wet cornbread batter. Instead of the wrapping and steaming that comes with making a regular tamale, most find they can simply use a cornbread mix that calls for one or two ingredients before pouring the entire contents over a foundation of chili that is already prepared.

What a lot of people like about kabobs is the cooking time. If a person wants a quick meal after work, these can be prepared and finished in about a half hour. For those who like their meat well cooked, add another five or ten minutes of time under the fire.

While it is not necessary to use barbecue sauce or glaze, creating a mustard based sauce with honey, fruit juice, or molasses, can be a healthier choice. There any many recipes to be found online that are not only easy to make but will not cause sugar spikes. Since lamb has its own distinct flavor, it is not necessary to add a lot of seasoning or heavy marinade.

Although some people go vegetarian, or vegan, for a number of reasons, it is not the only way to lose weight or get fit. In some cases, it may be wise to consult a nutritionist about making drastic dietary changes. While most encourage getting nutrients from food, they may be able to come up with an individual plan that will help a person achieve their health goals faster.
