Creative Cooking Is Fun When You Persevere

By Patricia Adams

One often feels that it can be a big job to cook a meal. You usually come up with the same old thing and it is routine. However, working in the kitchen can turn out to be creative. It is an art that you may want to learn more about. You can learn together with your kids and this is a great opportunity to spend some time with them as well. Creative cooking is fun when you open your mind to it.

Children can be just as creative as mom. It is best to rope them in at an early age when they are curious and willing to learn. You will even learn from your children. You may even start to see a gift developing in your son or daughter. This is where the chef is born. They won't see this as a chore anymore, but it may even turn into a hobby.

A chef is like an artist. He or she will come up with a basic plan beforehand. It is a good idea to add things as you go along. However, if you become an abstract artist and you simply keep on adding things randomly, you will end up with one big mess. Remember that less is more, so when it is more simple you will be able to savor all of the flavors.

You also need to learn more about the combinations which work well together. For example, basil and tomato is a classic example of this. Using pesto with a tomato sauce in a pasta will always taste good. Adding an Italian ham with a little Parmesan will finish it off nicely. With this dish, you can swap various types of pasta. You can also think of using various types of protein. But keep it rustic at the same time.

Of course, it doesn't mean that you can simply throw them altogether. It is not a case of flipping through your veggie drawers in the refrigerator in an attempt to get rid of what is left over and eliminating this. You need to pair a chicken salad with other ingredients which the palate will agree with.

If you have left over dough, don't throw this away. There is always something that you can do with this. One can start off with pita bread. Make them small and thin. These can be served as a side dish for a curry, for example. People love something different. You may want to make dinner rolls with herbs inside.

Be careful when you are making caramel because if you burn yourself, it can be incredibly dangerous. The caramel sticks to your skin, so you need to place ice on the wound as soon as possible. Stand back from the stove because it tends to bubble away quite a lot. Once you have the caramel cooked up, it is time to make decorations.

Something which goes well together is a sweet fig jam with slices of pears and Camembert cheese. These can be served on ciabatta. Ciabatta is great because you can put so many different toppings on them. Of course, you need to remember to pair the ingredient. For example, think of goats cheese, pesto and sundried tomatoes. There are tapenades and other types of potatoes you can make. These are always a winner.
