Gourmet Biscotti Is An Ideal Dessert

By Lisa Williamson

The coffee craze is still going strong many years after franchise and independent coffee shops have seemed to pop up everywhere. For those who do not know, these places serve a wide variety of beverages that range from teas to blended drinks that can be enjoyed by all ages. Many customers like to have gourmet biscotti to accompany these beverages.

There are many choices for biscotti as they are sold as bite size or regular, or are plain or filled with nuts. While almonds are common nuts to use, hazelnuts, pistachios, or walnuts may be used to top or mix inside. Sometimes it depends on the flavor, as vanilla or chocolate seem to lend themselves to many varieties, even those fancy ones that use toppings.

Many coffee shops sell great tasting baked goods but the problem is that they are high in calories and sugar. Biscotti do not have nearly as much sugar or dairy as say, a slice of cake, frosted donut, or fruit tart. For anyone that wants to cut calories, these are ideal and are not as messy as other desserts when it comes to traveling.

These also go well with other drinks like different varieties of tea, hot or cold chocolate drinks, or other choices like hot apple cider that do not have caffeine. The taste never overpowers the drink itself but must be eaten quickly so it will not become a permanent part of the drink. Some find that the subtle taste is enjoyable both with a drink and by itself as a snack.

Anyone that buys a single biscotti on a daily basis may find that the costs add up over time. Some who like to bake may want to play around with a recipe or two but there are many merchants that sell these by the box online and some specialty stores. In many cases, this costs a lot less than buying from a retailer that serves fresh coffee.

Like anything else, buying in bulk has its advantages such as saving money. People can also stock up on many flavors in case they desire a change or just want to have a relaxing cup of coffee at home. They are ideal for entertaining guests who may want to talk over coffee and tea, as they require no preparation or fuss.

On the market are biscotti with exotic flavors like anise, lavender, or toffee. There are also dessert inspired flavors that taste like cherry pie, velvet cake, or chocolate truffles. Every so often, a coffee franchise may sell these as a way to change or experiment to get feedback before making permanent changes to inventory. They also may be part of a theme but mostly stick to traditional flavors like vanilla or almond.

Having a box within reach is also great for times when a person has a sweet craving. Often, these are individually wrapped so they are great when traveling or as a treat for kids that is not loaded down with sugar. Not just limited to coffee or tea drinking, this tasty treat is becoming popular as people enjoy the many flavors on the market.
